It acts as a pain killer by blocking the receptors in the brain that are involved in the perception or sensation of pain. Darvocet-N [Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen] is an oral medication and should be taken exactly as prescribed by the physician. Amount should not be altered without the doctor’s approval. Treatment of pain works best when Darvocet-N [Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen] is taken at the initial stage of the pain. Medication may not work well if waited for the pain to worsen. Darvocet-N should not be used more frequently or for a longer period of time than prescribed because this drug can be habit-forming. More frequent use of the drug may not work well later.
